Military Bio:

Joseph D. Young born in Lockport, IL joined the United States Army and became a Rifleman with a rank of Staff Sergeant with the 1st Ranger Battalion. Don (Joseph's nickname to his friends) was captured in Germany and became a Prisoner Of War on January 1944. During his 14 months as a POW he spent time in camps 7A and 7B in Florence, Italy. Don was one of the few POWs to ever escape a POW camp in April of 1945 and went on to become a carpenter and a avid flyer, living in Fort Myers, Florida until 1987. Joseph later passed away on April 23rd, 1999 his wife Dorthea, his daughter Adele, and his son Joe survives him.
